About Loudoun Robotics

A parent-founded nonprofit closing the STEM equity gap in Loudoun County.

We exist so every student in Loudoun — regardless of which school they attend — has access to what it means to build and compete with robots.

Our Story

How we started — and why it matters.

Loudoun Robotics started the way a lot of parent-led nonprofits start: a few families sitting at a kitchen table, trying to figure out why their kids' classmates had such uneven access to robotics. Some schools in the county had thriving FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge teams. Others, often within a few miles, had nothing at all.

We watched the kids who did get to participate — and it was hard to miss what robotics did for them. They learned to design, build, fail, fix, and ship. They learned to talk to judges, to argue strategy, to lead a team through a build season. Those aren't hobby skills. Those are the skills that shape careers.

That's the gap we started Loudoun Robotics to close. Loudoun is a global technology hub — over 8,900 tech companies and one of the country's highest concentrations of engineering talent — and yet access to robotics in our schools is still inconsistent. Some of the most curious kids in the county simply aren't getting the chance.

So we got registered as a 501(c)(3), partnered with Gum Spring Library, started a summer camp, and got to work. Today we're a small, parent-led, volunteer-run organization with a straightforward mission: make sure every student in Loudoun County — regardless of which school they attend or what their family can afford — has a real path into competition robotics.

Who We're For

We're open to every student in Loudoun County. Every background, every school, every skill level. The only thing we ask — of students, parents, coaches, and volunteers — is respect for each other. That's how a team works, and that's how we work.

Our mission.

We bring FIRST robotics programs to every school in Loudoun County. The goal: a generation of engineers, founders, and problem-solvers that comes from every zip code — not just the best-resourced ones.

What We Stand For

Eight core principles.

Represented by the eight spikes of our gear logo — each principle is what we return to when we make decisions about programs, partnerships, and growth.

Access

No student turned away because of their school, family income, or zip code.

Craft

Real engineering. Build, break, fix, ship — no watered-down simulations.

Community

Parents, coaches, mentors, and teams. Nobody does this alone.

Curiosity

Every kid who wonders how things work is a kid we want on a team.

Resilience

Teaching kids to fail well is teaching them to build anything.

Honesty

Clear about what we do, what we can't, and how every dollar is spent.

Stewardship

Every donor dollar goes where a donor would expect it to go.

Generosity

Older teams mentor younger ones. Rivals help each other mid-match. That's the culture we teach.

Leadership

Who we are.
